About 167,625 pounds of carbon dioxide won't enter the earth's atmosphere because Natural Products Expo West will be powered with 100 percent wind energy that will be purchased using 3 Phases Energy Services' Green Certificates. The certificates guarantee that an amount of renewable energy equivalent to the customer's purchase is delivered to the national electricity grid.

New Hope Natural Media, the parent company of Natural Products Expo West, will purchase 125,000 kilowatt hours of power generated by a wind farm in Oregon. According to climate control experts, this commitment is equal to planting 10,000 trees, not burning 50 tons of coal or not driving 188,497 miles.

"It's the next step in our efforts to minimize our impact on the environment," said Jo Dickson, coordinator for the Natural Products Expo West 2003. The paper, plastic and glass generated at Expo West has been recycled since 1990 and products from the show have been donated to charity for 23 years.

Natural Products Expo West will be held March 6 to 9 at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center.
