Miracle Tree started in the US market late in 2015 - and in only a handful of years - has had a lasting impact in the tea and functional food aisle. Started by twin brothers Kunal and Karan Mirchandani, the brand has been at the forefront of introducing moringa teas and powders to the Americas. In 2022, the company continued to see growth due to their focus on superfood ingredients in their products. And despite the headwinds and challenges of 2021, including supply chain disruptions and ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, the twin brothers have ambitious plans looking ahead.
This enthusiasm comes as a direct response to shifting consumer trends. Kunal, Miracle Tree’s CEO and Co-Founder, defines this shift where “responsible consumers are now super-responsible about all decisions regarding their health, wellness, and diet – and everything matters including ingredient integrity and clean and responsible packaging options.” Kunal went on to say that “there is no doubt that SPINs ‘Food as a Medicine’ trend continues to remain a strong priority overall in the industry.” Collectively, consumers are gaining more awareness about the role of good nutrition in facilitating a healthy and balanced life. Healthy foods 2022 are more about environmental sustainability, better immunity, gut health and mental well-being.
Moringa
Unsurprisingly, and in the face of these trends, Moringa continues to dominate as an emerging superfood. New to moringa? Moringa is a nutrient-dense superfood that has been extensively used for its aryuvedic properties in India, Africa and beyond. These drought-resistant trees contain over 90 nutrients, including 47 antioxidants, 25 vitamins and minerals, and all nine amino acids. Miracle Tree’s blog has full section devoted to superfood insights where their customers can learn more. Best of all – the trend is relatively early as it’s estimated that only 2% of US households have tried moringa.
Gaining popularity in the U.S. as matcha’s alternative, Moringa is a caffeine-free energy booster that contains more protein, iron, fiber, and calcium than kale and is more potent than turmeric. It is a versatile leafy green that can be added to smoothies, salad dressings and baked goods. It has also been listed by Whole Foods as one of the Top Ten Food trends for 2022. “When it comes to moringa, we are leading the way in the tea space”, remarked Karan Mirchandani, Miracle Tree’s Co-Founder and COO. He continued, “it is always exciting to see larger retailers specifically call out moringa – and it reaffirms our efforts in the space.” Miracle Tree products are available at major US grocery retailers, such as Sprouts, HEB, Stop & Shop, and online at Amazon, Walmart, and Kroger.
With more than 30 SKUs, including new gift box sets coming online in Q1 2022, the excitement behind Miracle Tree’s products remains strong. The brand currently has three major product lines including 1) caffeine-free moringa herbal teas (featuring nutrient-dense moringa in every blend) – 20 SKUs, 2) super-caffeinated moringa energy teas (perfect for millennials who are looking for wellness-inspired alternatives to coffee) – 6 SKUs, and 3) Moringa superfood powders (perfect for smoothies and baked goods) – 2 SKUs. Their fourth line, a moringa gift box set is set to relaunch in March.
New Superfoods and Products
In 2020 and 2021, Miracle Tree focused on building out existing product lines and focused on quality enhancements and packaging updates (including a foil envelope update to their entire tea range) – and releasing line extensions to their three major product lines. These changes were evolutionary and necessary – but far from revolutionary. In 2022, the brand will launch new initiatives and product lines that take their superfood focus beyond moringa to new and exciting superfood ingredients.
“We’re currently looking at a number of nutritionally interesting ingredients”, continued Karan with a hopeful smile on his face. He continued, “There are so many amazing ingredients out there, new superfoods with amazing nutritional profiles and my job is to create delicious outcomes, and we’re already looking to implement amazing ingredients like Cacao, Turmeric, and Tulsi, just to name a few.”
Miracle Tree will focus on building its existing products through a horizontal expansion focused on purposeful ingredients. “Our plan is to recreate our product success across a number of interesting ingredient profiles”, explained Kunal. In other words, to see a full range of new herbal teas and superfood powders all featuring new and interesting ingredients. These new products are expected in the second half of the year and represent a new and exciting chapter for the brand. And for the brand, the change will be revolutionary.
