Industry trade organizations establish unified front for Dietary Supplement Lobby Day
AHPA, CHPA, CRN and UNPA join forces to advocate for consumer safety and access, industry growth and innovation.
April 8, 2019
The leading trade organizations representing the dietary supplement industry are joining forces for this year’s 2019 Dietary Supplement Day on the Hill, taking place June 12 in Washington D.C.
The collaborative effort will honor the 25th anniversary of the law that regulates dietary supplements, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) and the critical mass of support that led to the law’s enactment. All members of the four trade organizations–the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA)–are invited, and encouraged, to participate in the opportunity to educate Congressional offices about the benefits of dietary supplements and to advocate for reasonable regulation that, similar to DSHEA, strikes a balance between safety and access.
Since the passage of DSHEA in 1994, the dietary supplement industry has experienced immense growth, with no indication that the growth will slow any time soon. Three quarters of Americans identify as dietary supplement users, and confidence in the products, as well as trust in the industry, both remain high. Much of the industry’s maturation over the past 25 years is attributed to the commitment of the four trade organizations’ constant support of congressional and regulatory efforts to enforce the law in addition to the creation of self-regulatory initiatives. However, more work still needs to be done to ensure continued consumer safety and confidence, and industry leaders participating in the Day on the Hill are poised to address the industry’s needs to secure another 25 years of growth.
