US House Passes Food Safety Bill

The US House of Representatives has passed Bill H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, by a vote of 283-142 after rejecting it a day earlier. The legislation would require more government inspections and oversight of food manufacturers and provide FDA with additional authority to order recalls. According to the AP article, a similar bill sponsored by Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., has not yet seen action in the Senate.
