In 2013 alone there were more than 1,000 published studies on curcumin’s health benefits. The primary target is generalized inflammation—meaning everything from joint health and pain management to healthier blood-sugar management and cardiovascular benefits.

There are 24 ongoing studies on the effects of turmeric and curcumin. Today, Americans spend $2 billion on over-the-counter pain relievers, according to Consumer Reports, indicating the need for instant relief. But addressing the root cause of inflammation is critical to maintaining a healthy inflammation response, which makes turmeric and curcumin excellent natural alternatives.

Curcumin and turmeric are not the only natural ingredients that address pain and inflammation, but they are certainly trending today from both a science and a market perspective. Other ideas include avoiding saturated fats and sugar, sleeping and exercising more, and choosing plant-based proteins over red meat. Here are some of the supplements that also caught our eye.
