Bloggers flame against hot flashes
New York-based Women?s Marketing Group has launched www.changemenopause.com to ?celebrate, connect and empower menopausal women everywhere.? The new site has a section of frequently asked questions and includes information on perimenopause, osteoporosis and everything menopausal. There?s also a petition urging Congress ?to allocate more government funds to the National Institute of Health for the explicit use of financing research studies on alternate treatments for menopause.?
The most popular section of the site, however, may be the blogs. Women are encouraged to share their experiences—or just vent—about menopause. Women can laugh or cry as they read entries such as, ?How about irrational hatred! For no apparent reason you absolutely hate something or someone. For me it?s Susan Lucci. The mere mention of her name stirs up such irrational hatred I want to break the woman in half. Now that?s just not normal.?
Customers flocking to organic wool
Just in time for winter, companies are debuting a range of organic wool products. From New York to California and everywhere in between, consumers can now choose from baby blankets, socks, knitting yarns and even a knee-length women?s coat. According to Sandra Marquardt, coordinator of the Organic Wool Network, Maggie?s Organics, NUI Organics, Vermont Organic Fiber Co., Sahalie and Patagonia are all shepherding the new products into stores. Organic wool debuted on fashion runways last February in New York when designers used organic wool during the ?Future Fashion? eco-fashion show. Barneys New York later displayed the clothes. Sales of organic fiber products grew an average of 22.7 percent to $85 million in 2003, according to the Organic Trade Association.
Homeopathy gets the star treatment
Could homeopathy make the ?hot? list along with the brightest new stars? Yes, if international homeopathy company Boiron has a say. The company gave out gift baskets to some of Hollywood?s finest at this year?s Toronto International Film Festival. Stars such as Helena Bonham-Carter, Alan Cumming, Maria Bello and Toni Collette received the baskets and raved about the benefits of homeopathy. Will it be hitting the pages of People next?
