Shelf-stable probiotic supplements
Vidazorb patent-pending probiotic supplements can deliver billions of bacterial colony forming units (CFUs) per dose when used as directed. Made by Little Calumet Holdings, Vidazorb uses five billion CFU per strain per tablet, and Vidazorb probiotic formulations can provide up to 30 times the minimum therapeutic threshold per dose. Seven years of product development went into the formulation, and it does not require refrigeration. Chr Hansen's Probio-Tec probiotic strains are used exclusively in all Vidazorb products, together with Masquelier's Original OPC, and selected vitamins.
Co-Q10 line expansion
Soft Gel Technologies has expanded its co-Q10 soft gel line with CoQsol-CF ("crystal free") Translucent — an alternate version of the CoQsol-CF formula contained in a translucent shell. CoQsol-CF Translucent contains co-Q10 and mixed tocopherols in a base of d-limonene, which solubilizes and decrystallizes the co-Q10 crystals. It is available in 100, 200, 300 and 400mg dosages.
Cottage cheese with probiotics
BENEO-Orafti has joined with Friendship Dairies to introduce America's first all-natural cottage-cheese product containing both live, active probiotic cultures and prebiotic fibre to naturally boost both digestive and bone health. Friendship All Natural Digestive Health Cottage Cheese offers added dietary fibre in the form of BENEO-Orafti's OraftiSynergy1 oligofructose-enriched inulin at 3g per serving. This enriched prebiotic fibre, derived from chicory root, helps stimulate the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, the companies report. OraftiSynergy1 has been clinically shown to provide an extra boost to calcium absorption and bone health as compared to regular inulin.
Natural cacao snack
Navitas Naturals has created a new product by blending its raw organic cacao nibs with raw organic Cacao Paste (liquor) and organic sugar cane juice.?Navitas Naturals' Sweet Cacao Nibs can be eaten out of the bag, or add a bold flavour and crunchy texture to a wide variety of recipes.?The organic cacao beans are processed at low temperatures to maintain maximum nutrient retention.? Once extracted from the podlike fruit, the beans are cleansed with purified water, peeled and partially ground to form small "nibs." These are then rolled in Navitas Naturals raw organic Cacao Paste (liquor) and then lightly mixed with organic sugar-cane juice. The product is certified organic, kosher, vegan and raw.
Bread with fish oil
Arnold Bread has launched Grains & More Double Omega, a new bread formulated to improve heart health.?Two slices provides 50mg of Ocean Nutrition's MEG-3 Omega-3 EPA/DHA ingredient (made from fish oil). Each slice also contains 20g of whole grains per slice, and provides a good source of fibre and protein, the company says. Arnold Bread is made by George Weston Bakeries. Its other leading brands include Boboli, Brownberry, Freihofer's, Entenmann's, Stroehmann and Thomas'.
Probiotic bars with GanedenBC30
PC Brands new Pop Culture Probiotics bars contain GanedenBC30, a patented probiotic strain from Ganeden Biotech that does not require refrigeration. The bars come in a 90-calorie Yogurt Fruit and Nut with Cranberries, Almonds & Flaxseed bar, as well as a 110-calorie Chocolate Chip Granola variety. Additionally, the bars deliver 10 times more live cultures than the leading probiotic-enhanced yoghurts. Ganeden Biotech is based in Ohio, and is the largest seller of over-the-counter probiotics in the US through its Digestive Advantage and Sustenex brands. It also licenses its patented probiotic bacteria GanedenBC, which is self-affirmed GRAS.
Probiotic fruit beverage
Organic industry pioneer Steve Demos has launched GoodBelly fruit drink featuring probiotic Lp299v, which has been clinically tested and proven for 15 years to improve overall digestive regularity and promote immunity. GoodBelly is the first fruit-based, dairy-free, soy-free, wheat-free and vegan probiotic product of its kind in the US. It is available in Black Currant, Cranberry Watermelon and Mango.
Cane sugar alternative from coconuts
Tapping the sweet juices of coconut palm-sugar blossoms, Navitas Naturals' new Coconut Power is a pure and simple cane-sugar alternative. It is 100 per cent organic, unprocessed, unfiltered, unbleached and contains no preservatives.?It is naturally low on the Glycaemic Index, which offers benefits for weight control and improving glucose and lipid levels in people with diabetes. With a GI rating of 35, Coconut Power compares favorably to other sweeteners including agave (GI 42), honey (GI 55) and cane sugar (GI 68). It is especially high in amino acids, potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron and is a good natural source of the vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and C.
Los Angeles-based Jarrow Formulas has unveiled Q-absorb Ultra + d-Limonene, the next generation of the Q-absorb enhanced-absorption co-Q10 delivery system that utilizes orange oil (limonene) to naturally minimize co-Q10 crystallization. Q-absorb Ultra uses an all-natural liposome-based delivery system to improve absorption, and contains no detergents or surfactants. This delivery system has been validated in multiple trials to significantly improve co-Q10 absorption over powdered co-Q10 dosage forms, the company says. Jarrow Formulas' co-Q10 is manufactured via a yeast-fermentation process and consists only of the natural trans configuration, the same as is biosynthesized by humans. Jarrow Formulas' co-Q10 is supplied by Kaneka Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of co-Q10.
Juice from cashew plant
O.N.E. World Enterprises has unveiled O.N.E. Cashew Juice, the first of its kind available in the US market. It is a totally natural nutritional beverage with a light and sweet tropical flavor, made from the fruit of the cashew plant, not the nut. This Brazilian fruit is naturally fat-free and is packed with vitamin C (gram for gram more than orange juice but without the acidity). O.N.E. Cashew also contains beta-carotene, vitamin B1, B2 & B3, calcium and iron. And, unlike the cashew nut, O.N.E. Cashew is non-allergenic.
New pomegranate technology
Hefestus of Israel has created a technology to improve pomegranate shelf-life. Hefestus' technology takes a complete pomegranate and, with water and sound-wave technology, separates the peel from the arils as well as separating them from the paper-thin white membrane surrounding seed clusters. The technology enables the release of a natural preservative from the skin, which coats each seed and provides natural anti-rancidity protection. To achieve optimal long-lasting shelf life, Hefestus also can pack the fruit in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) via a new, patented method of sealing trays with modified atmosphere (MAP technology) called SLB — Shelf Life Booster. SLB is the best alternative for vacuum packaging, extending shelf life without using synthetic preservatives.
Juice from coffee berries
O.N.E. World Enterprises also launched O.N.E. Coffee Berry Juice, a 100 per cent natural beverage derived from the antioxidant-rich fleshy berry that surrounds the coffee bean. The drink contains a similar amount of caffeine as one cup of green tea. It is sweetened with fresh strawberry puree and acerola, which gives the product a huge vitamin C boost. The juice retains the nutritional benefits lost in regular coffee when the beans are roasted, its maker says.
