After a lackluster 2009, during which SNWL reported flat overall growth—its worst performance on record, dating back to 1997 when NBJ first began to track the category—the year 2010 marked 9% annual growth, $2 billion in new sales, and $22.7 billion in total sales. 2010 shined a ray of light on the sports nutrition & weight loss market. This was in large part to the annual double digit growth in the mass market channel. The FDA continued to put the squeeze on the bad actors and show a more proactive role in pushing out the tainted products.
