Kenya is highly regarded for its coffee. When it comes to tea, however, Kenya—though a quality producer and the fourth largest in the global market—finds itself in the commodities market, still low in its ability to captivate the imagination of the pinkies-out sippers. So when commodity tea prices fall, Kenyan farmers suffer. Martin Kabaki sought to change this. He teamed up with regional farmers to raise Kenyan tea to something special: a standout purple version of the stuff, high in antioxidants, polyphenols and the anthocyanin that lends the unique color.
