Anderson to put the K in calcium

NattoPharma (NATTO: Oslo Axess) has announced the appointment of Eric Anderson as Senior Vice President Global Sales & Marketing. In this newly created role, Anderson will direct the global sales and marketing platform for NattoPharma’s proprietary products, including the MenaQ7® brand Vitamin K2 portfolio. Additionally, Anderson will create and maintain the North American headquarters for NattoPharma, directing strategic sales and marketing activities.

"He is widely respected in the industry – known for his ethics, marketing strategy and innovation, sound understanding of product benefits, commitment, and enthusiasm promoting nutritional technologies. Anderson has been a member of the natural products industry for more than 20 years, during which time he was involved in the introduction of several successful novel ingredients, including Chitosan, Tonalin CLA, and MenaQ7® natural Vitamin K2. Most recently he was responsible for establishing the North American offices for Aker BioMarine Antarctic promoting Superba™ brand krill oil.

ABC awards renowned herbalist

The American Botanical Council (ABC) has given its first Mark Blumenthal Herbal Community Builder Award to Rosemary Gladstar, the renowned herbalist, teacher, and author known to many as the Godmother of American Herbalism. Gladstar founded several schools of herbal education, founded and organizes annual herbal conferences, leads international herb-focused journeys, and has authored or co-authored about a dozen books on topics ranging from herbal medicine recipes to medicinal plant conservation. Gladstar, the daughter of Armenian immigrants, first learned plant medicine during informal garden walks with her grandmother. In the early 1970s, Gladstar opened her own herb shop, Rosemary’s Garden, in Sonoma County, California. Then, in 1974, she co-founded the tea company Traditional Medicinals with Drake Sadler.

Double-digit growth inspires 3 new hires

Novel Ingredient Services has hired three new executives to help manage the company’s recent growth:

·                Frank J. Kimmerling as Chief Financial Officer

·                David I. Chipkin as Vice President of Operations

·                Eugene Lepelletier as Quality Assurance Manager

According to Novel President Bob Green, the company has experienced annual double‑digit growth over the last several years. Key to Novel’s plans for continued growth is the addition of Frank J. Kimmerling as chief financial officer. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Kimmerling brings more than 17 years of experience as a senior financial executive. Prior to joining Novel, Kimmerling served as chief financial officer for Medical Nutrition USA, a publicly traded nutraceutical developer serving the long-term- and acute-care markets. There, he successfully managed the company’s investor relations and mergers and acquisition activities, resulting in a sale to Danone North America Inc. Previously, Kimmerling held similar executive positions at Lamina Lighting, Geller & Company, and BISYS Group. Kimmerling is a magna cum laude graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting with concentrations in finance and computer science. He resides in Union, New Jersey.

Supplement firm hires key account director

Nutrition 21 LLC has brought on Todd Spear as national director of key accounts. Spear will manage key target customers including contract manufacturers, multi-level marketers, direct response accounts, and food and beverage customers. Previously, Spear held the position of senior vice president of product  management and development at Whole Health Products LLC. Spear has been integral in new product development, packaging, placement, and marketing, including web-based retail sales and marketing.

Biothera appoints scientific advisor

Joy Dubost, PhD, RD, CSSD, has joined Biothera's board of scientific advisors. In this role, Dr. Dubost will help guide the company in its outreach initiatives to dietitians and food and beverage manufacturers for Wellmune WGP,Biothera’s clinically proven immune health ingredient. Dr. Dubost is president of Dubost Food and Nutrition Solutions LLC, and an expert source of evidence-based information within the food, beverage and nutrition communities. Dr. Dubost earned a doctorate in food science from Pennsylvania State University, a master's in food science from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Nutrition from Hood College.
