Cactus Botanics offers American ginseng

Carol Cheow, general manager of Cactus Botanics, has announced that the supplier is now providing American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) raw material to the dietary supplement industry.

American ginseng is an herbaceous perennial plant in the ivy family, commonly used in traditional and modern Chinese herbal medicine. Although this plant is native to eastern North America, it is also abundantly cultivated in China, where it is often called huaqishen or xiyangshen. American ginseng contains dammarane-type ginsenosides, or saponins, as the major biologically active constituents. Dammarane-type ginsenosides include two classifications: 20(S)-protopanaxadiol (PPD) and 20(S)-protopanaxatriol (PPT). American ginseng contains high levels of Rb1, Rd (PPD classification), and Re (PPT classification) ginsenosides—higher than that of Panax ginseng in one study, according to Cheow.

She adds that American ginseng may be used in supplements for the following condition-specific support: blood circulation/healthy blood, immune system, central nervous system and endocrine system. It also has shown good sedative and anti-pyretic properties.

Cactus Botanics provides American Ginseng Powder Extract raw material featuring ginsenosides 10 percent, as tested by HPLC.
