In typical Patagonia Provisions fashion, the certified B Corp and 1% For the Planet company launched a product to bring an environmentally beneficial ingredient to market. Mackerel, a neglected and underutilized fish, is high in protein, omega-3s and B-12 vitamins. Being low in the food chain, these fish quickly reproduce and are sourced from a fisherman co-op in Spain that has been using the same hook and line method for over 100 years. Patagonia Provisions thoroughly evaluated the co-op before partnering with them, working with The Good Fish Foundation to find that the fishery was ultimately rated equivalent to Seafood Watch’s “Best Choice.”
