Follow the PlusCBD Oil™ team as Laura Sheehan guides us through the Silicon Valley of Hemp and the evolution of hemp CBD.

November 7, 2017

Once the Farm Bill passed in 2014, effectively ending prohibition on the misunderstood plant, hemp took the state of Kentucky by storm. As the first state to pass the bill that legalized the cultivation of industrial hemp in the United States, universities such as Murray State University and University of Kentucky paved the way as pilot programs who were authorized to begin planting and harvesting hemp.

However, long before that, Full Circle Market owner of 16 years, Laura Sheehan, had been a proponent of the crop, educating her customers about its benefits and potential as an agricultural staple for her local farming community. 2017 was her fifth year supporting Hemp History Week, a nationwide grassroots campaign whose goal is to restore the support for industrial hemp farming in the United States. “To us, hemp has always been a nutritional product,” commented Sheehan. “We sold the hemp seeds first because they have good essential fatty acids, proteins, your amino acid content, and those are things that are important to us.”

The growth of the hemp industry has been no surprise as more and more people learn about the various uses of hemp—from fiber to food. As the hemp-derived CBD conversation grew over the years, natural products retailers like Laura saw the nutritional promise it could have and decided to carry a select number of brands, including the leading natural products hemp CBD brand, PlusCBD Oil™ .

CV Sciences’ latest Retailer Spotlight explores how Laura got her community in the Bluegrass State to join and embrace the CBD Evolution, and explains how Kentucky is earning a new reputation as the Silicon Valley of Hemp.
