The Solae Company to Introduce Innovative New Ingredients, Concepts at SupplySide West
October 10, 2006
ST. LOUIS, MO, Oct 10, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- The Solae Company will debut innovative new soy protein ingredient technology for nutrition bars at the SupplySide West trade show, October 18-20 in Las Vegas, NV. "Our latest technology expands upon the range of options we offer nutrition bar marketers and manufacturers to help them optimize shelf-life and bar texture," said Kip Underwood, Global Strategy Lead, Nutrition Bar Platform. "Our experience in the nutrition bar category tells us that achieving ideal shelf-life is not only challenging, but also key to developing consumer loyalty and repeat purchase. This technology will offer marketers a new tool to help them toward that goal."
The new isolated soy protein, called Supro(R) 430, will also allow bar manufacturers to optimize bar economics. Sensory evaluation confirms its ability to deliver at least 50 percent of the protein in high-protein extruded bar systems, and deliver excellent flavor and texture characteristics. By replacing milk proteins in such products, Supro(R) 430 offers the potential to significantly reduce formulation costs, while maintaining or improving taste, shelf-life and texture.
"With its focus on innovation in nutritional ingredients, SupplySide West is the perfect venue for us to debut this novel new technology," Underwood said. "Supro(R) 430 will offer marketers opportunities to optimize the most important aspects of successful bar formulas -- taste, texture, and economics."
Supro(R) 430 will be demonstrated at The Solae Company booth in a new bar concept that features its nutritional benefits in delivering high-quality protein and sustained energy benefits. Additional new bar concepts will feature the company's soy protein ingredients in bars positioned to address consumer concerns centered on heart health, weight management and kids' nutrition.
In addition to nutrition bar concepts, The Solae Company will feature a new high-protein dry blended beverage concept that reconstitutes into a fruity beverage. "This novel new concept is a perfect brand extension opportunity for any marketer of dry powdered beverages looking to invigorate their product line," said Jean Heggie, Marketing Director, North America. "It is truly a unique beverage format and protein delivery system that provides consumers a great flavor experience and greater flavor variety in the category."
A final concept will feature the company's Solec(TM) soy lecithin as a source of choline, a nutrient important in brain development and memory function. Recent consumer research conducted by The Solae Company showed that only 29 percent of consumers were aware of the benefits of choline, while 67 percent were interested in buying foods that featured its memory-enhancing benefits.
"These results point to the significant opportunity in today's market to utilize soy lecithin as a nutritional ingredient for products positioned for enhanced brain health," said Dianne Devonshire, Marketing Manager, Lecithin.
