C-store sales up for the first six months of 2018

In a new survey of U.S. convenience stores, nearly 8 in 10 store owners said sales increased in the first six months of 2018, compared to the first six months of 2017. They cited a push for fresh and healthy items, like health bars, fruits and vegetables, packaged salads and trail mixes, as sales boosters, and said they plan to continue reserving more space for these kinds of products, including lower-sugar beverages and flavor-enhanced waters. Read more at NACS…


Kroger rolls out app to spur healthier grocery shopping

A new app is available for free to Kroger shoppers after a soft launch this spring. OptUP scores products on the grocers’ shelves from 1 to 100 based on their nutritional and health attributes. Scores are determined based on dietary guidelines and input from Kroger’s registered dietitians. The app also allows for personalized product recommendations, calculation of an overall cart score and digital ordering of better-for-you items for pickup or delivery. Read more at Supermarket News…
