It’s time for Congress to join the fight against food waste
In 2015, the EPA and USDA adopted a goal to cut food waste in half by 2030, but they haven’t yet adopted policies to support that goal. The 2018 Farm Bill presents an opportunity for such change. Two representatives also recently reintroduced the Food Recovery Act. Meanwhile, in the absence of federal action, states have been taking the lead in policy—in 2017, 80 unique bills related to food waste were introduced in state legislatures.
