Postnatal Nutrients Outperform Prenatals for Use in the Postpartum Period of Pregnancy Recovery
December 26, 2006
Sound Formulas is pleased to announce the results of clinical outcomes from a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial on their postnatal nutrient program After Baby Boost.
Participants were followed for a minimum of two months and a maximum of seven months on either product or placebo. All subject contact was with a study coordinator, nurse practitioner or research nurse who was blinded to the randomization scheme.
The current conventional wisdom for women to stay on their prenatal nutrient for several months after giving birth, compelled Sound Formulas to utilize a high quality prenatal vitamin as a placebo. By comparison, the After Baby Boost product was not only effective in relieving a number of common symptoms associated with typical postpartum, but significantly outperformed the prenatal placebo. Women on the After Baby Boost product experienced relief in fatigue, fluid retention, irritability and joint aches, as well as reporting improvement with mood swings, sweating and tender breasts.
The After Baby Boost product is a complete postpartum nutritional program, which includes a multiple vitamin specifically formulated to address the needs of postpartum women, fish oils and a nighttime mineral formula. Products may be sold as a single unit or individually. Dr. Dean Raffelock, formulator of the product has written a comprehensive overview addressing the need for postpartum nutritional support in his book, A Natural Guide to Pregnancy and Postpartum Health (Avery, 2003) now in its second printing.
