NXT Nutritionals' SUSTA(TM) Natural Sweetener Is an Answer to American Heart Association's Limits on Sugar Intake for Americans

NXT Nutritionals Holdings, Inc., said that Americans can heed the American Heart Association (AHA) call last month to drastically reduce their added-sugar consumption by using SUSTA(TM) Natural Sweetener and drinking Healthy Dairy(R) Yogurt smoothies that are sweetened with SUSTA(TM). NXT Nutritionals believes that SUSTA(TM) is a solution because it is the only all-natural, great-tasting sweetener system in the marketplace today that has added essential vitamins and minerals as well as probiotics.

For the first time, the AHA has proposed upper limits for the daily intake of added sugars, which was published in the August 24 issue of Circulation. The AHA sets the limit at nine teaspoons of sugar, or 150 calories a day, for men and six teaspoons, or 100 calories a day, for women. Although sugars sourced from natural fruits and vegetables are considered healthy, added sugars like those found in soft drinks and processed foods should be limited, the AHA said.

President and CEO Michael McCarthy of NXT Nutritionals said, "SUSTA(TM) Natural Sweetener provides a healthier alternative to sugar because it is the only sweetening system in the retail marketplace that is all-natural and low glycemic; it contains soluble fiber and probiotics, as well as essential vitamins and minerals."

Citing results from several studies, the authors of the AHA statement said that intake of excess sugars has been associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disease as well as elevated blood pressure, higher triglyceride levels and increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

The biggest culprits for the excess sugars, according to the AHA, are soft drinks, followed by processed foods and candy. With about eight teaspoons of added sugar, a regular 12-ounce soft drink will single-handedly put women over the recommended daily limit.

Currently undergoing a nationwide roll-out, SUSTA(TM) Natural Sweetener is a revolutionary minimal calorie, very low glycemic index natural sweetening system. SUSTA(TM) is designed to avoid a spike in one's blood sugar and to modify the glycemic response that often accompanies a snack or meal.

SUSTA(TM) is a proprietary blend of insulin fiber, fructose, natural flavors, botanical extracts, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics and is totally free of synthetic or processed chemicals. It helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, aids in digestion, supports the immune system and has no lingering aftertaste.

"A lifestyle of consistently exceeding one's caloric needs, regardless of the source of calories, combined with a lack of regular exercise, can have multiple adverse health effects on body composition as exemplified by our national epidemic of obesity and diabetes," said Dr. Richard L. Kozlenko, Director of Research and Development for NXT Nutritionals.

"Our SUSTA(TM) health team recognizes the priority and importance of today's nutritional challenges and is addressing them head on," Kozlenko adds.

"It is common knowledge that our nation is fighting obesity and that too much sugar contributes not only to excess calories, but poor health in general," said Dr. Paul S. Auerbach, Director of NXT Nutritionals. "The same way that we strive to eliminate tobacco products, we should attempt to eliminate excess sugar. The only way to do that effectively is to change dietary habits and make a concerted effort to cut back on sugar intake. Using SUSTA(TM) as a sugar substitute is an excellent way to do this."

SUSTA(TM) Natural Sweetener is currently being distributed to 1,800 stores from Maryland to Connecticut through White Rose Foods, New York. Consumers also can purchase SUSTA(TM) on the web at: www.sustastore.com.
