Northeast Merger Cleared, Closed
Northeast Cooperative members OK'd the natural foods distributor's merger with United Natural Foods Inc. and the deal closed Dec. 31. About 96 percent of the votes cast during a co-op member meeting favored the deal, which brought Northeast under the wing of one of the nation's largest natural foods distribution companies. Northeast logged about $120 million in sales to about 2,800 customers in 2002, mostly in the northeastern United States. Days after the merger closed, UNFI named Rick D. Puckett vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.
