The nation's first jurisdiction to ban BPA did so yesterday when legislators in Suffolk County, New York, joined Canada by making plastic products containing the chemical -- linked to various health problems -- illegal. Consumers Union reports that Oregon, Washington, California, and Chicago are also considering banning BPA. Meanwhile, the FDA has not changed its safe-for-humans stance. Good thing I recently stumbled across a new BPA-free water bottle: Laken bottles are made from aluminum, so they're recyclable, and they are the only aluminum bottles currently certified BPA free.
