When I tell people about the most useful app I’ve downloaded onto my smartphone, I officially become the most boring person at the cocktail party.
It has to do with documents. You know, those sheets filled with numbers and lettering that everyone said would disappear in the future paperless society? Well, they haven’t, yet. They’ve just gotten more awkward to send and receive as fax machines are more and more rare.
Enter apps that use built-in cameras in smartphones to ‘scan’ and send whatever you wish. For example, I needed to send an copy of an invoice the other day, so I used the Document Scanner on my Droid. It automatically converted the images into a PDF that I was able to email from my phone.
The end result won’t look as clean as it would with a regular digital scanner, of course. But it worked well enough—and fast. Which made getting paid that much easier.
