HerbDay Launches New Website to Help Nation Celebrate Herbs

The celebration of the fragrance and power of herbs is blooming on the newly unveiled HerbDay website (http://www.herbday.org/) and events for HerbDay (Oct. 11) are cropping up around the nation.

HerbDay organizers invite herb lovers and the general public to visit HerbDay’s new online home. People can browse the calendar, find a local event, and bundle up the kids for an educational celebratration that reconnects them to the earth.

Anyone who is already inspired by herbs may want to host an event and post it on HerbDay.org! Herbalists, artists, cooks, gardeners, retailers, folks with green thumbs -- and those without -- are all welcome to join in the celebration.

Across the globe, chefs mince garlic, scientists look for the next medicinal plant to make a modern medicine, and herbalists prepare echinacea tincture to increase immunity and valerian to aid sleep. Even simple culinary herbs have some health benfits. There’s a lot more to parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme than a just flavor, fragrance, and rhyme! The health secrets of the kitchen spice rack can be found on the HerbDay site.

HerbDay is an annual public educational event celebrating the importance of herbs and herbalism through harmonized, independently planned activities. HerbDay will occur on October 11, 2008, and during the days leading up to and following that date. The HerbDay Coalition is comprised of five national nonprofit organizations: American Botanical Council (ABC), American Herbalists Guild (AHG), American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and United Plant Savers (UpS). In addition to the Herbday organizers, HerbDay is sponsored nationally by retailers GNC and Vitamin World, as well as magazines: Taste For Life, Remedies and The Herb Companion.
