Exhibitors and Industry Heap Praise on Launch of Asia’s First Natural Products Industry Event
HONG KONG, CHINA – MAY 22, 2002 - Penton Media, Inc. (NYSE: PME)
More than 4,000 industry executives gathered for the first annual Natural Products Expo Asia (www.naturalproductsasia.com) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre last week and hailed the event a milestone for the burgeoning natural products industry in the region.
Retail, manufacturing and supply buyers from more than 60 countries attended the four-day event which saw products from more than 200 companies from 25 countries on display.
“We met many companies that presented us with interesting potential business from around the region. We found potential suppliers that will allow us to establish our own house brands. This was the most professionally run show that we have participated in. Natural Products Expo Asia has become a pillar in the nutrition business community in Asia,” said Leighton Tsai, Managing Director of Power Sports, which exhibited at the show with its EAS, Power Bar and Musashi brands.
The show featured country pavilions from the United States, New Zealand, Thailand, India, and Singapore. New Zealand Trade Commissioner for Hong Kong and Macau, Georgina Kirkcaldie, commented: “The eleven New Zealand companies exhibiting at the Natural Products Expo Asia were thrilled with the quality of the attendees and are looking forward to coming back next year.”
Penton Media has announced the show will return to the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from June 18-20, 2003 and show producers are well satisfied with the launch of the first Natural Products Expo Asia. “The show surpassed all our expectations,” said Penton Media Asia’s Managing Director, Michael Westcott.
“We’ve said for some time that the industry really needed this event to galvanise growth for the natural products industry in Asia, so we are delighted that exhibitors and buyers responded so positively and enthusiastically to the first show. We can look forward to this developing and growing this show significantly next year,” Westcott added.
Natural Products Expo Asia showcased a cross section of natural products including organic and natural foods, herbal and complimentary medicines, personal care, nutraceuticals, functional food and dietary supplements.
“The show has proved to be an excellent platform for us and the industry to exchange ideas and to launch new products. We were thoroughly satisfied with the launch of the show and I would say Expo Asia has already established itself as the leading industry event,” said Donald Wong, China Director of Sales & Marketing of Capsugel, a lead sponsor for the event.
Tom Vaughan, of Royal Pacific, who exhibited Noni products at the US pavilion, commented: “This show was an absolute home run for us. We signed a number of deals at the show and we’ve doubled the size of our booth for next year.”
Optima Health, a natural products manufacturer from the UK, said it was initially uncertain how ready it was to take part in the inaugural Natural Products Expo Asia. Optima’s Sales Director, Michael Bath, said: “We came to Expo Asia with an open mind on the Asian market but we were absolutely delighted, it was a fabulous show. We had more serious buyer interest shown in our products at Expo Asia than at any other show we’ve exhibited at in the past. To say we were pleased would be an understatement. We are really looking forward to coming back next year.”
