Tooth-friendly tea with Palatinose
The first tooth-friendly tea containing Palatinose (isomaltulose) carries the Happy Tooth label by Toothfriendly International, which means the product is guaranteed to be non-cariogenic and non-erosive. Produced by Bischofszell Nahrungsmittel AG (BINA), the new beverage, called Good for Me, is available at the Migros supermarket chain in Switzerland. It comes in two flavours: honey and orange. Palatinose is a fully digestible sugar derived from pure beet sugar and gives a rounded, sugar-like sweetness and pleasant mouthfeel, to toothfriendly beverages even with a high pH value greater than 5.0. In contrast to other carbohydrates, Palatinose is a disaccharide with a high microbiological stability, which results in a strong bond between its glucose and fructose molecules. The strength of the bond is such that oral bacteria cannot break down the sugar, and consequently, acids that attack tooth enamel are not produced.

Immune-system booster
Gaia Herbs has created an immune booster supplement with a combination of organic echinacea, organic elderberry, organic ginger and andrographis. Called Quick Defense Liquid Phyto-Caps, the blend of herbs is quick acting and only needs to be used for short periods of time during sinus and respiratory challenges, Gaia Herbs says. The formula was created by CEO Ric Scalzo, a clinical herbalist, based on five years of NIH-NCCAM-funded echinacea research. The studies found an important class of compounds in echinacea root called alkylamides (as opposed to the aerial parts of the herb), which impact inflammatory pathways. Quick Defense is available in 20- and 40-count liquid-filled vegetarian capsules; the suggested use is two capsules five times daily at the onset of an illness.

Wine Bar, without the wine
A new nutrition bar called WINETIME contains as much resveratrol as 50 glasses of red wine. The 190-calorie, rich, dark chocolate-flavoured, gourmet nutrition bar is also high in fibre and contains dates, almonds and seven superfruits — cranberry, noni, pomegranate, goji berry, acai, mangosteen and blueberry. The WINETIME bar is made from DSM's resVida along with an extract derived from premium French red grapes.
