AOAC INTERNATIONAL is Seeking Collaborators for a Study on Soy Isoflavones in Dietary Supplements

A collaborative study of a method for soy isoflavones in dietary supplements and foods will be conducted in the spring of 2006, and AOAC INTERNATIONAL is looking for collaborating laboratories to participate in the study. The method to be studied is a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) procedure with ultraviolet detection.

Scope of work: Gradient HPLC analysis of soy isoflavones in dietary supplements and dietary supplement ingredients

Number of samples: Approximately 12

Time: Approximately 24 man-hours, including testing/qualifying samples

Resources: Laboratories will need a gradient HPLC system capable of UV detection and 5 µL injection. Mobile phase solvents are acetonitrile and dilute phosphoric acid in water. Laboratories must be willing to use acetonitrile as an HPLC solvent. Isoflavone standards (6) and apigenin (internal standard) should be available in the laboratory (if that is a problem, commercial standards will be provided for the laboratories). A small quantity of high purity dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) will also be required. Laboratories already analyzing isoflavones are highly preferred.
