Pronova Biocare Responds To Recent EFSA Published Opinion
LYSAKER, Norway, April 21, 2004 --In response to a recent opinion published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) stating there may be health risks associated with foods contaminated with mercury, Pronova Biocare, one of the largest fish oil producers in the world and makers of EPAX® Omega-3 fish oils, articulates that their fish oil supplements meet or exceed all purity standards ensuring removal of all heavy metals, including mercury.
The commitment to produce the highest quality products led Pronova to develop innovative, patent-pending processing steps. A multi-step purification and concentration process, which includes molecular distillation, guarantees that EPAX significantly exceeds established FDA purity standards. The low levels of contaminants are extensively controlled by analysis on every product and documented in the Certificate of Analysis for each delivery. Additionally, Pronova’s fish oils are far below the new Council of Responsible Nutrition (CRN) voluntary fish oil monograph for mercury, which most companies now refer to as the standard.
“Fresh and farmed fish can contain high levels of mercury,” stated Morten Bryhn, M.D., Ph.D., director of research and development for Pronova Biocare. “At Pronova we strive to produce the highest quality fish oil that is rid of all contaminates making them extremely safe for our consumers.”
Pronova Biocare, headquartered in Lysaker, Norway, offers marine omega-3 oils in the B2B segment under the registered trademark EPAX. Pronova has invested millions of dollars over the last fifteen years supporting the research of marine omega-3 EPA and DHA on general wellness and specific health conditions.
The health benefits of marine omega-3 fatty acids are increasingly being accepted worldwide. The American Heart Association and the World Health Organization both support the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to diets citing their importance in maintaining good health.
