Finished Products Expo Flies Solo in Geneva

The essential event for products from the dietary supplements, functional food and drinks industry comes to Switzerland: 18-20 May 2010.

Back in 2006, the organizers of Vitafoods identified a gap in the market for an event that would cater to the finished products end of the dietary supplement, functional foods and functional drinks market. And so it was that Finished Products Expo was launched. For the past four years, it has consistently grown in size and stature, drawing in new exhibitors and visitors with each installment, to the point where rising demand from both groups is so great that for the first time ever, Finished Products Expo is going solo.

Previously situated in the same hall as Vitafoods, this year it is moving to a new location and will benefit from its own entrance. With its own dedicated marketing campaign, the organisers of Finished Products Expo are aiming to further stimulate the growth and interest that the show has garnered in previous years, to ensure this year is the most successful yet for Europe’s only dedicated exhibition for products from the functional foods, drinks, cosmeceuticals and dietary supplements industries.

And if developing into a distinct event in its own right isn’t enough, the show will continue to benefit from the best of both worlds by attracting the valuable crossover buyers who attend Vitafoods. Many of the exhibition’s features are also back by popular demand, giving visitors an even more compelling reason to take a trip to Geneva this year.

Every year, the New Products Zone is packed with the very latest unique and innovative products to hit the market. And with many of Europe’s economies getting themselves back on track after a couple of tough years, expect a whole host of interesting ideas to give you inspiration. Statistics from last year showed that 54% of visitors attended the show to get a feel for the latest industry innovations making the New Products Zone a prime attraction for visitors and exhibitors alike.

A feature on every visitor’s must-see list each year is the Tasting Bar @ FPE. Here it is possible to sample the latest functional foods and drinks on the market. In 2009, the show’s organisers launched the Tasting Bar Awards for the very first time, allowing visitors to vote for their favourite product, with the results and winners announced at the end of each day.

Proud winners in the drinks category from last year’s show included Agrolabs with their Naturally Acai Extra Drink and Naturally Cranberry Omega 3 and Creamy Creation’s Forest Fruit low calorie meal replacement drink. On the food side, Now International was successful with its NOW Almond Crunch Crunchy Clusters, VSI was victorious with its fruit and fibre bar whilst Nutribio’s meal replacement bars for weight management were also deemed worthy winners by voters.

Exhibitions are notoriously good venues for meeting industry experts and catching up on the latest news with peers and customers. But few events provide visitors with the ability to actually connect before the show via a matchmaking service. The Distributors Wanted scheme is an online service which allows FPE visitors to search for and even be contacted by potential distributors before the show has even begun enabling them to meet up and forge relationships on site, ultimately saving valuable time and money.

In addition, experts from EAS will be on hand to offer visitors to the show free advisory sessions. A limited number of pre-bookable sessions are available providing visitors with the very latest regulatory and strategic legislation, advice on getting into the functional foods market, health claims, novel foods and labeling requirements.

Commenting on last year’s show, the supply chain manager from Maxi Muscle said: “This was my first time at Finished Products Expo and it was really useful. I met with a lot of my existing suppliers but also, more importantly, I met with many potential new suppliers. I was looking for something specific – and managed to find it. The show was a great success for me.”

Finished Product Expo Exhibitors

In 2009, more than 2000 visitors passed through the doors. Whilst making new contacts and sourcing new distributors were high on their list of priorities, many attended with the sole aim of sourcing new products, and where better to seek out cutting edge innovation than at Finished Products Expo – as this year’s exhibitor line-up will confirm.

Medex [stand 2017] will be presenting its brand new vitamin C-fortified syrup containing spruce tips, honey, peppermint, thyme extracts and eucalyptus ethereal oil which helps to get rid of coughs. It does this by disinfecting the respiratory tract, stimulating the respiratory channel mucus membrane whilst at the same time strenthening and restoring it, and reducing hoarseness in the voice. As the syrup is honey-based, it is totally natural and does not contain any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

VSI [stand 2020] has expanded its production capability and will be showcasing its brand new multilayered nutrition bars for meal replacement or high fibre diets at Finished Products Expo 2010. The company will also be highlighting its range of organic sports and diet products.

Nova Diet's stand [stand 2132] will focus on the company's Fibromial product, an innovative food supplement developed and targeted for those suffering from pain or fatigue. The supplement also maintains and restores emotional balance whilst improving sleep quality and physical capacity.

Biolatte OY [stand 2222] will be presenting the eponymous Biolatte Travel, a new high quality lactic bacteria -S. boulardii- containing zinc (immunomodulator) which has been developed to guard against “turista” in travellers. Meanwhile on stand 2115, Pez Production Europe will be highlighting its range of effervescent tablets, vitamin tablets, dextrose products, multi-vitamin lollypops and drink powders in sachets.

Jungconsult do Brasil [stand 2026] is a producer of aloe vera raw materials and finished products. At Finished Products Expo, the company will be exhibiting its complete line of aloe vera juices in several fruit flavours as well as a number of specialised varieties including white and green tea, and the powerful Brazilian fruits Açai and Guarana, all with aloe vera concentration as high as such as 80%.

Olivum Functional drinks [stand 2033] has recently developed a new line of products based on olive leaves and water extracts. OSPRINT is a refreshing, innovative functional energy drink with only 18 kcal per 100ml. OLIVUM is a more concentrated functional health drink packed in 500ml glass bottles and in 100ml one shot aluminium bottle. It has 25 kcal per 100 ml and is sweetened with grape fructose.

Finnish company Hankintatukku Oy (Ltd) [stand 2110] will be presenting Pycnogenol® EasyLife – with Pycnogenol®, Magnesiums and Vitamin B6. The Pycnogenol® soothes pain during the menstrual period, whilst Magnesium reduces some of the uncomfortable symptoms including cramping, bloating, depression and water retention. Vitamin B6 is helpful for the relief of anxiety, irritability and mood swings and helps with the absorption of magnesium.

Laboratoire Mergens SA [stand 2007] will be showcasing its latest product designed for the comfort and hygiene of the ear, Calmaspray®. Calmaspray® is an isotonic ear solution based on seawater, which is passed through a sterilising filtration process, microbiologically controlled, and blended with papaya extract for the comfort of the ear.

Sharing his thoughts on 2010, Event Director Chris Lee said: “Finished Products Expo has continued to flourish over the past four years, and we are expecting the popularity of the event to become even more evident in 2010. As we move away from these difficult economic times, health and wellbeing will continue to be a top priority for consumers, which in turn will translate into increased interest in the show. The high number of quality exhibitors already confirmed will ensure Finished Products Expo remains the must attend event this year.”
