Gaia Herbs is one of “Five Companies to Watch” in the dietary supplement and functional food businesses, according to Nutraceuticals World magazine. The company’s unique and sustainable business model, true vertical integration “from seed to shelf,” commitment to environmentally sustainable packaging solutions and support for scientific research are cited in Nutraceuticals World’s June 2009 issue as just some of the factors that make it a rising star in the nutraceuticals industry.

The selection came from among 50 companies that were nominated by third parties to the selection board at the magazine which consists of non-affiliated industry officials. A simple vote tally resulted in Gaia Herbs being among the top 5 companies.
Greg Cumberford, Gaia Herbs’ vice president of strategic initiatives, believes one of the reasons his company was selected as a “Company to Watch” is “the way we’re honoring ancient and traditional (pre-20th century) medicinal systems, while constantly pursuing 21st century methods for validating and authenticating the quality, safety and efficacy of traditionally used medicinal herbs.”
An industry pioneer since its launch in 1987, Gaia Herbs developed the first standardized full spectrum fluid extracts that preserve the natural array of phyto-constituents—and listed guaranteed biomarker concentrations on product labels. Ten years ago, the company patented a vegetarian liquid capsule delivery system that enables delivery of potent herbal solutions in a more readily absorbable liquid format. Most recently, Gaia Herbs introduced the EarthBottleTM– the world’s first all-natural, plant-based, biopolymer composite resin technology for packaging dietary supplements and body care products.
The company has recently been recognized with industry awards and mentions for its focus on sustainable business and environmentally sensitive practices. In February 2009, Gaia Herbs received the Environment and Sustainability Award from Nutrition Business Journal. In March 2009, the company was highlighted by North Carolina Governor Beverly Purdue and the Western North Carolina Biotechnology Center as a model of economic and environmental sustainability.
Gaia Herbs is a certified organic grower and nationally-branded manufacturer of liquid herbal extracts based in Western North Carolina. Gaia Herbs’ line of all-natural herbal products is carried by independent health food retailers and co-ops, national and regional natural products retail chains, and healthcare professionals.
