Nurture, Inc. Receives Product Innovation Leadership Recognition for OatVantage(TM) From Frost & Sullivan

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec 20, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Frost & Sullivan's recent strategic analysis of the United States food fiber markets selected Nurture, Inc. as the recipient of the 2005 Product Innovation Leadership of the Year Award. This Award recognizes the company's timely introduction of the innovative OatVantage(TM), a nutritional ingredient that meets the market demand for a high percentage of oat beta-glucan soluble fiber.

"The opportunity for OatVantage stemmed from a 1997 Federal Drug Administration (FDA) unqualified health claim, which states that any product containing at least 0.75 grams of the soluble oat fiber beta-glucan per serving could make a heart disease prevention claim (e.g. 'helps lower cholesterol') on the product label," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst Jennifer Steinke.

"OatVantage's unique high level of concentration opens-up this broadly recognized and highly marketable health claim, previously only available to oat cereals, to new product categories. These new categories include supplements that can now make the health claim at a convenient two-tablet dose as well as food and beverage products that want to provide this value added benefit without adversely affecting product taste or texture," says Steinke.

Nurture's breakthrough product, OatVantage, is the result of a three-year technology investment with a leading cereal company. The outcome was a patented process that generates the most highly concentrated oat beta-glucan product available in the market.

OatVantage is a 54 percent beta-glucan oat bran concentrate, available commercially as a free-flowing opaque powder, appropriate for use in supplements, foods, dairy beverages, and nutrition bars. One of the most appealing characteristics of OatVantage lies in its ability to deliver over 0.75 grams of beta-glucan in just 1.4 grams of the product. It is all natural, patented and clinically tested. The product is available at leading health food stores.

"From 2002 to 2004, Nurture registered over 500 percent growth in sales of OatVantage and in September 2003, the company expanded its manufacturing facility in Missoula, Montana, increasing its production capability three- fold," notes Steinke. Overall, Nurture has demonstrated a strong ability to foresee future needs and opportunities in the nutritional ingredient market. Backed by a comprehensive research and development team and strong future goals, the company is poised for further product innovation.

Each year this Award is given to a company that has demonstrated excellence in the development of new products and technologies within their industry. The Award lauds the recipient company's innovative techniques and efforts in launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
