PomElla® TG introduced at Supplyside West

New pomegranate tea ingredient offers natural spectrum of potent, water-soluble polyphenols for beverage applications

Las Vegas, NV— Thirsty SupplySide West attendees stopping by the Geni Herbs’ booth showed surprise upon learning the cold iced ‘tea’ offered there was not tea at all, but simply a new formulation of PomElla. Offered with no flavorings, sugar, or additives, the introduction of PomElla TG was well-received despite its similarities in taste, look, and feel to regular iced tea. Yet its differences from iced tea garnered the attention of beverage and supplement manufacturers: no caffeine, measurable water-soluble pomegranate polyphenols, and the value-added benefits of the PomElla brand.

Today’s pomegranate craze enters the mainstream just after green tea, whose researched health benefits helped pave its way as an established ingredient in everything from ice cream to cosmetics—even cracking the exclusive menu at Starbucks. And since pomegranate juice has shown higher antioxidant capacity than green tea, low-calorie and cost-effective ingredient alternatives to pomegranate juice—like PomElla TG stand to offer the health benefits and functionality of green tea, without the caffeine or ubiquity.

“We are very excited about this new formulation of PomElla, which we have specifically designed to be seamlessly implemented into various beverage and tea applications,” says Sonya Cropper, VP of Marketing for Geni Herbs.

Containing the same natural ratio of polyphenols as they are found in whole pomegranate, PomElla TG is standardized to punicalagins, the main compound cited responsible for the fruit’s health benefits. Derived from GMO-free pomegranates organically grown without pesticides or fertilizers, PomElla also bears the Kosher and Halal marks

PomElla, a pomegranate extract backed by clinical research and safety profiles, was found to offer up to five times higher antioxidant capacity in vitro than Vitamin E or ellagic acid in April 2005. Now, on the heels of their announcement of a multi-year clinical study program on PomElla, Geni Herbs current focus is on human clinicals exploring the patent-pending ingredient’s pharmacokinetic and heart-healthy properties, with results due early 2006.
