Pronova Biocare Ensures Highest Quality Fish Oil Products

Pronova's Patent-Pending Purification Processes Remove Chemicals in Their Fish Oil Products

LYSAKER, Norway, March 23, 2004 --- In response to a recent study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry stating higher levels of contaminants were found in fish oil supplements, Pronova Biocare, one of the largest fish oil producers in the world and makers of EPAX® Omega-3 fish-oils, articulates the significance of their patent-pending purification process that guarantees low content of environmental pollutants in their products.

At Pronova Biocare, each and every production run of omega-3 carries full quality control documentation to ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained. Chemical analyses take place at every crucial stage and the most stringent, hygienic conditions are applied throughout Pronova Biocare operations. EPAX products are produced in Pronova¹s GMP facilities to meet the highest possible quality standards. The products also comply with the CRN voluntary monograph.

"Holding the market authorization for an omega-3 pharmaceutical, the Pronova Biocare organization is well prepared for the challenge of producing good quality documentation for our products," stated Morten Bryhn, M.D., Ph.D., director of research and development for Pronova Biocare. "At the Pronova Biocare factories the crude fish-oil is purified in several steps, some of which are patented processes unique to our products. More than 70 controlled clinical studies in patients and healthy individuals have been published on the omega-3 concentrates used in our food supplements."

Consumers have used the product since the mid-80's meaning that the concentrates are very well documented regarding safety. A special issue on safety has even been published in a medical journal (1).

The raw material for Pronova Biocare¹s omega-3 products is fish oil from fisheries on the west coast of South America, where nutrient rich cold water from the Antarctic region runs northwards in the Humboldt Current. The oil from the Humboldt Current fisheries is high in omega-3 fatty acids and low in industrial pollutants.

Pronova Biocare, headquartered in Lysaker, Norway, offers marine omega-3 oils in the B2B segment under the registered trademark EPAX. Pronova is a specialist in the production of concentrated omega-3 products. They offer products ranging from standard 30 percent material to materials with more than 70 percent omega-3. The concentrated products contain different EPA/DHA ratios built around concepts, backed by scientific research, to help their customers market the omega-3 products. Pronova has invested millions of dollars over the last fifteen years supporting the research of marine
omega-3 EPA and DHA on general wellness and specific health conditions.

The health benefits of marine omega-3 fatty acids are increasingly being accepted worldwide. The American Heart Association and the World Health Organization both support the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to diets citing their importance in maintaining good health.
