Broomfield, CO - November 19, 2003 - Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading research and development facility and supplier of proprietary, biologically active plant-derived ingredients to the natural products and pharmaceutical industries, is conducting an oral presentation today highlighting its groundbreaking polyphenol compound, Univestin™, shown to aid joint health and mobility by naturally assisting the body through both the COX II and 5-LO pathways. Unigen’s Vice President of Scientific Affairs, Dr. Qi Jia, will release the human clinical test results on Univestin’s™ unique blend of Free-B-Ring Flavonoids and Flavans at the1st International Conference on Polyphenols and Health taking place November 18-21 in Vichy, France.
Univestin™ is the only known natural product available that uses its proprietary blend of botanicals, never before used for this purpose, to effectively block these two very important joint health and mobility pathways. Jia’s abstract, “Free-B-Ring Flavonoids and Flavans Act as COX and LO Dual Inhibitors for Improving Mobility and Physical Functions of Arthritis,” was one of 40 chosen for oral presentation out of approximately 400 total submitted to Agence EVIC, the event organizer.
Polyphenols are major antioxidants commonly found in fruits, vegetables, cereals, legume seeds, chocolate and beverages such as tea, coffee or wine. These compounds possess anti-proliferative and enzyme-modulating activities that have been shown to naturally down-regulate damaging molecules associated with aging, including arthritis, osteoporosis, cardiovascular problems and neurodegenerative ailments such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
“Polyphenol research continues to be an important evolution in directing the development of naturally derived, novel compounds for many of today’s prevalent health concerns,” said Jia. “Presenting at this conference provides Unigen with a great opportunity to share valuable information with leaders in the scientific community.” Jia indicated that, according to recent human clinical trials carried out on Univestin™, the compound was shown to be more efficacious in helping the body deal with the joint and mobility issues associated with arthritis as a leading pharmaceutical drug currently on the market.
Jia also pointed out that Univestin’s positive effects on joint mobility and stiffness are evident in many parts of the body, including the knees, back, hips, neck, elbows, shoulders, ankles, hands and fingers.
