LOS ANGELES, CA, February 14, 2006–Soft Gel Technologies, Inc.® (SGTI) and OptiPure® will host John Rumberger, PhD, MD, FACC as a speaker at the Natural Products Expo West trade show in Anaheim, California, on Saturday, March 25th at 12:30 p.m. in room 207d of the Anaheim Convention Center. Dr. Rumberger is a noted cardiologist who was a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic for 12 years. He currently serves as the Medical Director of HealthWise Medical Diagnostics Center in Columbus, Ohio, is the author of the wellness book, “The Way Diet,” and is an adjunct professor at Ohio State University. In his presentation entitled, “The Role of Coenzyme Q10 and Other Supplements in the Metabolic Syndrome: A Perspective of a Preventive Cardiologist,” Dr. Rumberger will discuss the negative impacts of metabolic syndrome, particularly visceral fat, and its correlation with cardiovascular disease. He will also explain how diet, exercise, and nutritional supplements can help maintain optimal health. Show attendees are encouraged to meet Dr. Rumberger and obtain free autographed copies of his book immediately following his presentation at the SGTI booth (number 1404) from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities characterized by abdominal obesity, elevated blood lipids, and insulin resistance. It is a leading risk factor for diseases such as diabetes, stroke, obesity, and heart disease. This ever-growing epidemic currently affects over 40% of American adults age 40 and older, and the numbers continue to increase. CoQ10 can help reduce the risk of diseases caused by metabolic syndrome by supporting cardiovascular function and providing antioxidant protection throughout the body.
Dr. Rumberger practices preventive cardiology and provides a unique consulting service in his clinic where he uses advanced C.T. scanner imaging to provide early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. In his book as well as during lectures, Dr. Rumberger explains that there are several key lifestyle factors that lay the foundation for health. He advocates exercise, a balanced mental state, and the Mediterranean diet—not a diet per se, but a term that encompasses the eating practices of the people in this region. It includes a high consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, olive oil, fish, and complex carbohydrates, and low to moderate consumption of dairy products, fish, poultry, eggs, and very little red meat. Wine is consumed in moderate amounts, as well. “The Way Diet” delivers a complete lifestyle plan to live longer, reduce stress, and lose weight in a healthy, safe manner. Dr. Rumberger delves into other topics besides diet to reveal the secrets of heart-healthy, reduced-stress living that he has recommended to his patients for years. Unlike fad diet books that profess quick weight loss, entail expensive diet regimens, or require one to count carbohydrates or calories, “The Way Diet” is an easy-to-follow program with delicious recipes that can be incorporated for life.
SGTI President, Ron Udell, commented, “We are proud of our association with Dr. Rumberger. His outstanding credentials and practice of preventive cardiology lend credibility to the Natural Products Industry.” He added, “Dr. Rumberger presents a compelling talk on ‘natural’ solutions for metabolic syndrome that is not to be missed.”
