NNFA East Kicks Off 1st Annual Education Day on Capitol Hill

Washington, D.C. Monday, April 11, 2005—Adding excitement and productivity to the NNFA (National Nutritional Foods Association) Natural Foods Day proceedings—where NNFA members visit their congressmen and women by appointment to discuss industry issues and legislation—the newly revitalized NNFA East region hosted its first annual NNFA East Education Day on Capitol Hill on Monday afternoon, April 11. NNFA members from all regions were invited to attend free of charge to hear Paul Schulick, founder of New Chapter, speak on the emerging science on cinnamon and cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Attendees also enjoyed industry veteran Mike Hoffmann reveal how to create a dynamic and profitable health and beauty aids department, and Jay Jacobowitz, president of Retail Insights, Brattleboro, VT, and Michael Kanter, founder of Cambridge Naturals, Cambridge, MA fielded audience questions on retail best practices. Based on the enthusiastic response, the region plans to offer NNFA East Education Day on Capitol Hill again in conjunction with Natural Foods Day 2006. This afternoon of concentrated, high-level learning is a perfect complement to Natural Foods Day, and adds another incentive to visit our nation’s capital to help preserve our industry.

How to join NNFA

Retailers interested in joining NNFA should become members of both the National and Regional branches. National membership is $30 per year, and dues for the regions are generally $95 per year. National maintains a presence on Capitol Hill, and the regions advocate in local and state legislatures, as well as at the federal level. Together, the regional and national branches provide a blanket of protection from legislation unfavorable to our industry at all levels of government.
