Ruth’s Omega Burgers Hit Local Retailers - Tasting at NOW Lounge

Toronto, ON – January, 2003. Omega Burgers, a frozen burger based on hemp and flax, are now shipping to health food and grocery stores throughout Canada. They are made by Ruth’s Hemp Foods, the first comprehensive line of foods containing hemp as an integral ingredient.

Omega Burgers had their debut at Director Ron Mann’s post-screening party for Go Further with Woody Harrelson at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6th, 2003. Since then, Ruth has cooked the burgers as the guest on Vicki Gabereau, and featured them at trade and consumer shows across Canada and the United States. The response has been phenomenal.

Ruth’s Omega burgers come in two flavours: Garden Vegetable and Smoky Mushroom, with a third flavour, Teriyaki, anticipated for spring. The Omega Burgers are completely vegan (free of dairy, eggs and meat), yet manage to provide high quality protein through the hemp seed base. Omega Burgers contain no trans-fatty acids, and are low in saturated fats.

“I have two children, and I can tell you that perfecting these burgers took longer and was more difficult than childbirth”, said Ruth. “I wanted my Omega burgers to be certified organic and Kosher, and this ate up weeks and months. But I got exactly what I wanted: vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, non-GMO, certified organic, Kosher and really delicious!”

The Omega Burgers are making their tasting debut at the NOW Magazine Lounge, 189 Church St. (at Shuter) on January 22, between 1 & 3 pm.

I ate some of Ruth’s amazing hemp burgers at the Go Further party and loved them. Here at NOW Magazine we are trying to increasingly look at ways to "leave a lighter foot print" in all of our endeavors and serving these tasty and environmentally friendly burgers at our Lounge seems like one way to do it.
