InterHealth’s Senior VP of R&D Co-Editor of Two New Scientific Textbooks

Books on obesity and anti-angiogenesis research serve as valuable resources
for academia and the scientific community

BENICIA, Calif., March 29, 2007 – InterHealth Nutraceuticals, Inc. announced that its senior vice president of research and development, Debasis Bagchi, Ph.D., has co-edited two scientific textbooks published this month by CRC Press.

The first book, entitled Obesity: Epidemiology, Pathophysiology and Prevention, contains 41 chapters that cover a wide variety of topics concerning obesity and related degenerative diseases and weight management. The book is co-edited by Harry Preuss, M.D., a professor of medicine and pathology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

A renowned expert in the field of obesity and weight control, Dr. Bagchi’s experience was invaluable when it came to selecting the most scholarly and appropriate articles for the textbook. “Dr. Bagchi has conducted obesity-related research for more than 20 years,” said Paul Dijkstra, InterHealth’s CEO, “and he has directed much of the extensive research on our company’s two patented weight-management ingredients, Super CitriMax® and ChromeMate®. I can’t think of anyone more qualified to help create this important new resource.”

The textbook contains articles on Metabolic Syndrome and diabetes, and a large section devoted to natural, nutritional and physical approaches to weight management. Also included is a separate section on child obesity and its prevention.

The second book, called Anti-Angiogenic Functional and Medicinal Foods, includes numerous scientific articles that explore the use of functional foods around the world and the challenges faced in developing anti-angiogenic (anti-cancer) food products. Dr. Bagchi’s co-editors are Jack Losso, Ph.D., an associate professor at Louisiana State University, and Dr. Fereidoon Shahidi, Ph.D., a professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

“The co-editing of this textbook utilized Dr. Bagchi’s strong expertise in the area of functional foods,” said Dijkstra. “He has been instrumental in moving Super CitriMax and ChromeMate

into the F&B market, and indeed, his experience has been acknowledged by the Institute for Food Technology, which has named him chair-elect of its Nutraceutical and Functional Foods Division.”

“Both books will serve as valuable resources for physicians and other health professionals as well as for scientists and students studying these very serious health concerns,” said Dijkstra. “These volumes will make a significant contribution to the field of health research and will greatly expand the number of scientists who understand these critical issues.”

In addition to his role with InterHealth, Dr. Bagchi also serves as a professor of toxicology in the Department of Pharmacy Sciences at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He also serves as vice president of the American College of Nutrition.
